Power Transformer Installation & Assembly

Nationwide Installation for Power, Substation & GSU Transformers

Power Substation Services provides field installation and assembly for new and rebuilt large power transformers throughout the contiguous United States. PSS crews support transformer placement, component assembly, vacuum processing, oil filling and commissioning activities for utilities, power generators, industrial facilities and transformer manufacturers.

Large Power Transformer Experience

PSS teams have installed, assembled, vacuum-filled and commissioned transformers with ratings as large as 1,300 MVA and 765 kV. That experience allows PSS to support complex projects involving large equipment, specialized site conditions and coordinated outage or energization schedules.

Transformer Assembly & Oil Filling Process

Once the transformer is positioned, PSS installs and assembles the required components. A high-capacity vacuum is then applied to maximize removal of moisture and air voids from the transformer windings. During filling, transformer oil is circulated through PSS processing equipment, where it is heated, dehydrated and degassed before entering the transformer.

PSS continuously analyzes and monitors the oil throughout the filling process to help ensure the transformer receives high-quality dielectric fluid.
