PSS hot oil reclamation and transformer oil processing rigs have purified millions of gallons of oil and prolonged the service life of thousands of transformers. Because PSS can perform the process on qualifying energized transformers up to 230 kV, an outage is often unnecessary.
Why Transformer Oil Reclamation Matters
Over time, byproducts formed inside a transformer can degrade cellulose insulation and negatively affect dielectric fluid properties. Acid, moisture, dissolved gases and sludge can contribute to deterioration and increase transformer risk. Oil reclamation removes harmful contaminants and helps restore fluid condition.
How the PSS Process Works
PSS continuously heats and circulates transformer oil through multiple filters, fullers earth tanks and a vacuum dehydration column. The process removes contaminants such as acid, water and dissolved gases. When performed energized, heat from the transformer can also assist with moisture removal from insulation and the dissolution of sludge buildup within the windings.
