The PSS hot oil reclamation or transformer oil processing rigs have purified millions of gallons of oil and prolonged the life of thousands of transformers. Because we perform this service energized, up to 230kV, outages are often unnecessary.
Over time, byproducts formed inside the transformer decompose the cellulose insulation. These byproducts adversely effect the properties of the dielectric fluid and can cause the transformer to eventually fail. Transformer oil reclamation extends the transformer life by removing harmful contaminants that degrade the transformer’s insulation system.
PSS continuously heats and circulates the oil through multiple filters, fuller’s earth tanks and a vacuum dehydration column to remove contaminants, such as acid, water and dissolved gases. The heat from the energized transformer aids in removing moisture from the insulation and dissolving sludge buildup within the windings. At the end of the process, the transformer is clean with excellent oil properties.
